Medication Policy

Prescriptions are submitted during appointments.

Prescription errors are a major medical risk. To avoid mistakes and to run my practice effectively, I try to send every prescription and any refills that you will need before our next appointment while we are together. If you make and keep your appointments as recommended, you should not need other prescription renewals between appointments

Requesting prescription renewals

To reduce the chance of renewing prescriptions that are not up to date, I do not accept requests from pharmacies for prescriptions. Be sure to contact me yourself, with a Passport portal text or telephone message, at least four business days ahead.  Include the date of your next appointment and when you expect to run out of pills.

My professional time

You will be charged for the time I spend between appointments reviewing your records and submitting new prescriptions. Prescriptions for controlled substances must meet additional state regulations and require more time.

Access to your prescription history

Most prescriptions are written electronically to reduce errors and check interactions with other medications you may be taking. With your signature on the consent form, you give permission for access to prescriptions written by all of your health care providers. State law requires prescribers and pharmacies to review records of all controlled substances.
